How do you use the Homedics Deep Sleep II sound machine?
Well, once you have plugged the unit into the mains power, you can select whether you want one of the 4 white noise sounds, the water sounds or the nature sounds.
Alternatively, you can select one of the 8 sleep programs instead and what this does it play one of the water or nature sounds first and then transitions it into white noise as you fall asleep.
This is a slow transition and since Homedics has a patent pending on their sleep programs, they obviously believe that they give you a better quality sleep than simply playing one type of sound on its own.
Once you have selected your sound, you then decide on the length of time you want it to play for (30, 60 or 90 minutes), then on the brightness of the LED display (4 settings) and as the sounds play, increase or decrease the volume and tone until you have it right for you.
Of course, you can’t forget that you have a remote control with this sound machine and all of the buttons for all of these functions are on the remote:
- Power ON/OFF.
- Timer options.
- White noise.
- Nature sounds.
- Water sounds.
- Sleep Therapy.
- Volume (+ or -)
- Tone (+ or -)
Points to note about the Homedics Deep Sleep Machine
One improvement that could be made to the Homedics Sound Machine and I have no idea why it has not been included, is a clock! There is no clock or alarm on this sound machine, so you can’t set it for a wake up call in the morning.
It would really be nice if you could set a lovely natural sound to wake up to in the morning. Another point to note is that the thin, tall vertical shape of this sound machine makes it liable to tip over if you are not careful.
What are customers saying about the Homedics HDS-2000 online?
The vast majority of online customers love this sleep and relaxation machine. They really like the remote control, the 3 different timing options and the ability to dim the LED display.
There are however, a number of customers who have found that the volume suddenly reduces down to nothing or that the sound randomly switches.
This is a problem because it is not just one or two complaints and it has been going on since 2014, so whatever is causing the problem has clearly not been addressed.
Which is most surprising as Homedics are a big and respectable company, but you can’t ignore customer reviews. On that note, it appears that Homedics are ignoring these complains, because not once have I seen them respond to any of the online complaints (even on their own website).
Currently, 70% of online reviews give the Homedics HDS-2000 a 4 or 5 star rating, whilst 30% give it a 1, 2 or 3 star rating with the biggest problem being this randomness in volume.
Summing up the Homedics HDS-2000 Sleep and Relaxation Machine
When you look at all of the features and the sleekness of this sound machine, it looks like the ideal purchase, especially since it has a remote control and 8 different sleep programs with 12 different sounds.
There does seem to be a problem however with the volume reducing randomly, which is quite annoying and has been going on for some time now without being resolved. I also checked the reviews for the earlier model – the HDS-1000 and the same problem occurs there as well.
On the other hand, far more customers have no problems with this sound machine and love the Homedics HDS-2000, as well as the earlier version. So if you want a sound machine with a remote, then it might be worth trying the Homedics Deep Sleep II Sound Machine, otherwise you can read more of my reviews here.
